1. Hair
Hair loss occurs when radiation exposure exceeds 200 rems.
2. Heart and Brain
Severe radiation exposure ranging from 1000 to 5000 rems can impair heart function. Radiation can destroy nerve cells and small blood vessels in the heart, potentially leading to immediate death. Brain cells may be affected if radiation exposure surpasses 5000 rems.
3. Thyroid
Specific body parts are impacted when exposed to various radiation sources. The thyroid gland can be affected by radioactive iodine exposure. A significant amount of radioactive iodine can impact all or part of the thyroid.
4. Blood System
Exposure to 100 rems can lead to a reduction in the number of lymphatic cells in the blood, resulting in various immune issues. This condition is referred to as mild radiation sickness. Reports from Nagasaki and Hiroshima indicate that symptoms may persist for over ten years following such exposure.
